Alan Mann has passed

Post by angliagt »

Alan Mann, famous for his successful Anglia,Cortina,
& Escort racing cars in the distinctive Red/Gold color scheme,
has passed away.He raced in the UK.
Not a lot of details, but since he was born in the mid '30's,
I assume that it was from natural causes.

Yes its a sad day for Motorsports. I saw the notice on a UK forum today. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and car friends. Thanks for posting it Doug, I was just about to. He helped make our cars all the better!

Apparently he had been ill for some time and died in his sleep. I remember watching Frank Gardner racing the AMR Mk2 Lotus Cortina and then the Mk1 Escort at my local tracks of Brands Hatch and Crystal Palace back in 1968/9 when I was but a young teenager. Also saw the beautiful F3L P68 sports prototype racer at Brands, looked so good yet never finished a race. Lots of famous drivers drove for him over the years. In recent times he had bought back a few of his old cars including a Mk1 Lotus Cortina and the Mk2 as well plus the 1968 Escort. He also became very active in historic racing building a RHD 65 Mustang, Mk1 Lotus Cortina and even a 107E Prefect. A friend of mine drove for him and also his son Henry has been racing successfully for his father's team. A sad loss.

Paul, thanks for posting more info. Really sad and one of my favorite icons while growing up as well.
